Back in May 2002, Annie and Kenneth separately attended ASU’s College of Engineering convocation ceremony for their respective family member’s graduation. After the ceremony, Annie attended a dinner with her friends and family to celebrate, as did Kenneth with his family. During dinner, everyone decided to go see the new Spiderman movie at AMC Ahawatukee. As fate would have it, Kenneth’s party decided on the same thing. Annie was contemplating on whether or not to attend as she had already seen the movie. However, everyone persuaded her to go along with the rest of the group…. Luckily she did…
While Annie’s party waited patiently for the movie to start, Kenneth’s entourage walked into the theater. Vu, Annie’s cousin, recognized Kenneth and Wayne and asked them to come over. They mingled for a few minutes while Annie and a few other girls gawked over the Ung brothers. After the movie, Vu proceeded to Kenneth’s group to talk to them. Vu, being the jokester that he is, had mentioned how Annie was staring at him and wanted to see if he was single (not 100% sure how the conversation went). Vu walked back to the group, laughing, at what he had just told Kenneth. Annie was quite embarrassed and wanted to sneak out of the theater without being seen. As both parties walked towards the parking lot, Annie noticed that Kenneth was walking with a swag (turns out, that’s how he really walks!). She was turned off by the thought of his arrogance and dismissed the thought of them ever dating.
Two weeks went by and Vu emailed Annie with Kenneth’s instant messaging name and email address. She tried to add Kenneth’s name to her instant messaging buddy’s list but he denied it, so she decided to chance it and emailed him. He received the email but wasn’t sure what to make of it because Vu’s cousins were all “kids”. He didn’t want to disrespect Vu, so he gave it a chance. He emailed her and told her to call him, but Annie, being the shy person she is, decided to put it in his hands and gave him her phone number. A few days passed until he finally called her, but it was the night of her high school graduation, so no luck. A few days passed again and he finally got a hold of her. The conversation lasted into the wee hours of the night and finally ended at 3:00am.
They finally decided to “hang out” on Saturday, June 8th. The plan was for Kenneth to pick her up at her cousin’s house at 8:30pm. At 8:30pm, the door bell rang. Unbeknownst to Kenneth, Annie’s whole family answered the door with a big grin. Kenneth was a bit overwhelmed, but when she showed up at the door, he was relieved and ready to start the date. He has never really planned a date before so he decided to improvise it. First, they went for a sushi dinner at Sakana. She ordered a couple of dishes, but decided to leave most of the ordering up to Kenneth. Kenneth ordered a lot of raw sushi, something that Annie did not eat. As the food arrived, Annie decided to be polite and shoved the sushi down, even though it made her gag a few times. The dinner conversation could have lasted forever, but it was on to the next destination: ice skating. Unfortunately, the ice arena was closed when they got there. So, they decided on miniature golfing, but again, it was closed. So they decided to play one game of laser tag, along with a friendly game of cosmic bowling, in which Kenneth beat Annie… twice! They concluded the night by eating at Denny’s at 2:00 in the morning.
